The last thing to be put on the outside of the house was the hood over the front door. We thought the house looked kind of naked without it. We designed it with Fleming Construction to match the bracket under the English window. I think it dresses the house up a bit.
The fireplace in the master bedroom has a mantle on the front which we think is made of soapstone that had been painted at one time. It has some carving in it in a pretty design. We decided to make it a gas fireplace since I know I wasn't going to be shlepping wood into our bedroom any time soon. Home and Hearth installed the art deco style fireplace. Scraping and cleaning.
We have been so busy, I didn't realize it had been so long since I blogged about the house. We are still not in yet - just waiting for the railings which have taken longer than we thought, but hasn't everything? We've made a little outdoor room in the back yard with pea gravel and rock walls done by Ed Chesney.
The iron railing came from Jack Hadlovic on Route 57 in Stewartsville who has all kinds of neat stuff like the iron railings and iron pots, bird baths, firebacks, etc. I have to wire brush and paint the railing black - a good winter project.
Finally, the kitchen cabinets were installed. Vito, Haviva and Chris from Showcase Kitchens in Bloomfield guided me in the beautiful design and Tom and John did a wonderful job installing.
