I thought it would be fun to post a condensed progression of our project.


The front and sides:

The finishing touch

The last thing to be put on the outside of the house was the hood over the front door. We thought the house looked kind of naked without it. We designed it with Fleming Construction to match the bracket under the English window. I think it dresses the house up a bit.

The last fireplace

The fireplace in the master bedroom has a mantle on the front which we think is made of soapstone that had been painted at one time. It has some carving in it in a pretty design. We decided to make it a gas fireplace since I know I wasn't going to be shlepping wood into our bedroom any time soon. Home and Hearth installed the art deco style fireplace.

Scraping and cleaning.

The porch

The Guilliams brothers laid the brick and bluestone for the porch.


We used a basket weave pattern which I thought wouldn't be too busy with the stone.

Railings

Lodi Welding made and installed the railings inside and outside of the house.
